Each package contains 10 pre-poured Malt Extract Agar (MEA) plates formulated with black dye and charcoal. The dark agar surface provides enhanced visual contrast, making developing fungal colonies easier to observe against the culture medium.

The plates arrive pre-poured and ready for appropriate laboratory use, eliminating the need to prepare and pour agar media separately. The substantial agar layer is designed to help maintain the culture surface during normal storage and use.

Malt Extract Agar is commonly used for cultivating and observing yeasts, molds, and other fungi and can also support mycology and mushroom-cultivation applications where MEA is appropriate.
